Self defense for being a cop?

So i'm a high schooler who is one of those guys that wants to plan ahead with their life. So i'm thinking about being a cop or going into army or some criminal justice type thing..and i'm wondering if i were to take some kind of self defense which would be the most helpful and the best to prepare me or give me some experience ahead of time.
